Monday Night at the Mill

It was another fine jam at the Mill. We missed the musical stylings of Chris, but alas he is either in the Phillipines, or well on his way. Ralph, George, Doug, young Jason, Nancy, Kendall, Brian, Joe, Dale, PJ, Tim, and a couple of others jammed away. We really had a pretty tight group playing. Got most of the standards in, and a few newer ones that we are slowly picking up on. Several new faces were in the crowd and the ones that I talked with really enjoyed it. Some are local enough that they want to come more often. Some that were out of towners said they would come back whenever they were in the area.

Chris, I talked to a business owner from down the street from the Side Door. Said he might be interested in using his space to have a musical show or two. I don't know exactly what it looks like, but I am going to go by and see him sometime.

The JB's play for the Radford Lamplighters on Thursday night. We'll muddle through without Chris and give 'em the best we got. We'll eat a little extra desert in honor of ya, Chris! Hope you read this from the lands of the East and give us an update on the trip. Safe travels to you, Christine and Isabella!

Great post, Wayne.
The crowd was SRO for most of the night (which is much better than MIA). Wayne and Joe's old high school pals were in town for a big honkin' Monroe Terrace reunion.
Ruth brung 5 or 6 of her co-workers, plus Lucy, so we packed 'em in. The weather was dank and chilly outside, so there was no outdoor pickin', unfortunately.
Wayne's running the show next week. I'll be in New York City -- where I might sit in on a jam session. Get me a bite of Big Apple bluegrass.

Ohayo Gozaimasu! Good morning!
Thank God lots of people speak English here. It's more like "Ingrish," but it's good enough. We're gonna hop on the shuttle bus to the Naritasan Temple in Narita. (We flew into the Narita International Airport.)
This may sound dumb, but the culture here is much warmer than I expected. I had an impression of the Japanese as being very formal and serious. They ARE incredibly polite, but they smile a lot more than I expected. It should have been no surprise that things are very efficient here, as well. We zipped through customs. The shuttle to the hotel was easy to find and exactly on time. Interesting stuff...TV is full of cartoons, news (mainly about the Chinese earthquake), beer in vending machines (nice), Internet in the room (very nice), people drive on the left side of the road (I forgot that).
Ralph - you can look up Steve Earle and Chris Thile in NYC these days. Tony Trishka is an NYC guy, but I think he's living in Jersey.
We fly to Manila tonight. We'll keep postin.
Isabella wonders what Mrs. Frye is up to right now.
Best to everybody! Sayonara!

Right now I have Yanks-Devil Rays on TV. "Japanese....Change Up! ...Japanese!" There's also a big sumo wrestling tournament going on, which is interesting. Notable--a couple big fat white guys are into it. Might be time for a career change!
